i have vista on my laptop and yesterday i got a popup says critical windows error and now i cant even log on  to my desktop or anything. what shud i do? get a antivirus disc or pc tools disc? or what?

My computer always starts with a Safe mode without any reaon i.e. also if it is shut down properly. So please help me regarding solving this problem !! sir,, my friend has win 7 and he increases his browsing and downloading speed  upto 200 kp/s in his net while in the same net it gives me 30 kp/s . i have win vista home basic. he does this by trick that he runs a program called gpedit.msc and increases the bandwith by 200% .. which is not available in vista ..so pls can u tell me any such tricks..to increase my downloading speed..THANKING U..

Windows vista found too many programs running in the background and shut down all of what I can tell were non-system processes and restarted, and when it restarted the only way I can get any .exe file to run is to select itself from the list of programs to use to open the file with, because it no longer recognizes .exe files and will only run them from that menu.

Ever since my laptop says "mbxb.exe stopped working", my desktop of my laptop is blank. No task bar, no icons, no back grounds, no anything! But ctrl+alt+del works. I'm using HP pavilion dv4 1133tx laptop for the past 16 months. If I try to copy .vob files it takes much time to copy and it goes to "not responding" stage. After that it doesnt copy into the desired location. Similarly if I try to copy .avi files it shows COM surrgorate not responding. While I am using the computer, whether I am on the internet or not, every 3-4 minutes a blue box will pop up ans I have 3 minutes to type in an encrypted code before it will shut down. It is extremely annoying when it stops what you are doing and you have to type in the word/words before you can finish. Does anyone know how I can get this to stop???? The only thing I have done recently is change my security settings and have a lock on the computer where only I can put in a password before it will let you use it. Would this have made the computer start doing this?? Any help would be appreciated!!
