My Gateway Laptop has been checking my disc consistence and then one day it would not allow me to log into my account, every time i click the name of the user i want to log in as it takes a few minutes and crashes. June 10th, Vista did an update, something like 14 updates to install, so I hit the power button log off thing, that installs and shuts down, turned computer on this morning, get to the point where it is nearly on the Windows screen, get a message "Configuring updates, stage 3 of 3 - 0% - Do not turn off computer"  then is shuts down and reboots, right back to that screen, infinite loop! I know it happened last year, have read some threads and somehow I finally got in, but want to make sure it doesn't happen again, please, any help! Recently I changed the theme on my new-ish Windows Vista Home Premium laptop from classic to the new Aero theme. I was working on a few html files at the time and when I edited them I tried to save them but the Windows said to check the path for the files. However I know the files are in the right place as I put them there first day. I then changed the theme back form Areo to classic hoping to fix the problem. I have for a long time ago created a folder whit "no name" if you understand. The folder dosent have a name, and its on the desktop.

The problem is that i cannot delte the folder.. :-/

On my Vista workstation, I am the sole user and i am the administrator. On several folders, i do not have acces. It tells me that "access is denied". I even have tried to take ownership of the folder and it still eill not give me rights. This phenom happens on several folders (not system folders, things like "my documents").

Also, is ther a tool that I can use to explore my computer like I used to? This version of "Explore" does not give you many options on how to find stuff on your PC.

I think my pc has a virus. When I opened my pc internet explorer windows kept popping up. I disconnected the power and turned it back on. It seems that ever since I updated to IE8, I get an intermittent problem where when I click on an application on the desktop to open it, it will appear in the taskbar only. And I am unable to maximize, or restore it. In the past, I was able to browse through Windows Explorer to open the application or drive and it would be fine. However, the latest one is launching Internet Explorer 8 from the desktop or quicklaunch bar, now only opens to the taskbar. I cannot maximize it to use it. Even if I browse My Computer to open it, the same thing.

This has becoma a major annoyance and has left my computer useless when it comes to browsing the interent. I have another folder on my desktop I created for Adobe applications I don't use on a regular basis. That folder also cannot be opened from the desktop. It too only opens to the taskbar and cannot be maximized. At the current time, all others will open from the desktop just fine.

I've done a complete virus scan using AVG (completely up-to-date), and nothing is detected. I've done a defrag as well, and still I have the problem.

Windows Vista Ultimate. Toshiba Notebook 200X will not shut down completely. It seems to go into hibernation mode. I am running two antivirus programs, that maybe the problem?

I had the BIOS fail during up-grade, so Toshiba in Perth fixed it and up-graded the RAM to 4 gig.

In the BIOS it shows 4 gig but in systems only 3 gig??

Occasionally, when booting up, eventually I get this message in a box: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. It it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location. The bare bones desktop comes up, I restart, hit F8, and then do a restore to a prior successful boot up. I've even wiped out the drive and then done a complete reinstallation of Vista and all the drivers for my Dell notebook. But the problem remains.

Inadvertently applied 'theme' to document. Is word 97-03 compatible but my font is printing as hyrogliphics (sp?) and I can't undo it. I go to the word doc, highlight the text in text box, go to page layout to delete theme and it is pale grey I'm not able to select it at all. URGH I really need to print this for a deadline and I'm frustrated to no end. in Vista there are two rows in font display -regular on left and funky stuff on right like hyros again. HELP

Since purchasing a new computer with Windows Vista I'm unable to access a certain game that I had always played in the past online. On my other computer I was running Windows XP and never had a problem with the game.. I have downloaded the Java with in the past ask me if I wanted to download active x control which I did and have been told it is necessary to have installed in order to play this certain bingo game... I am using two OS at Apple Mack book that was set by a computer engineer from where I bought.Actully, I have little idea about computer and I'm using Apple Mackbook.So I suggested that engineer to set Windows OS with Mac. My husband and I own a laptop computer: Vista. We also own two other home desktop computers. We connect to DSL through AT&T. And we installed a router (Belkin) which broadcasts from the base computer to the other two computers. Our Vista, of course, has wireless assistance. For months, we were able to use our Vista with the setup at home. However, one day I noticed that I could no longer get to AT&T internet. I have fonts on my computer which i am running Vista Business 64bit. It was running ok when i had it at 32bit and then upgraded to 64bit and after installing everything the fonts are with some lines clear and some lines blurry. Can't get Clear QAM channels to work. First I setup HDHR and I can view channels with VLC, but after all set up in Media Center Live TV I get NO signal for those channels.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 and I decided to do the "BACK Up Files" task. It seemed to be running quite smooth, albeit taking forever to copy all my files onto the DVD's. I kept going along inserting DVD 1, 2, 3 etc as instructed and am now very near the end and am on DVD Disk 9, the name on the DVD's I was instructed to use is: BACKUP User-PC 31/3/2009 8:38am Disk 9 (1-9so far)  now the progress bar seems to be at the end (full green bar) however the Back Up Files program is not ending or stopping. Giving me back access to my PC. I can use the PC of course but cannot use or change any settings on the Back-Up (if you look at settings it says I have never done a back-up) I cannot open the DVD drive, if I turn off my PC will all the saved work so far be for not? what I read online is that if you stop or interrupt the backup in the middle then you cannot recover. Would I have to start over? I really would not want to waste 9 more DVD's or my time, which was all day yesterday and some of today waiting. The reason I am doing a BackUp is in case I get a virus were my PC is totally wiped out or messed up to the point where I have to F-disk and start from scratch. As I said I am using Vista Home Premium SP1 Have a Hard Drive size 298 GB with 187 GB free. If you need more info please let me know.
