When i open my computer the screen is split. One side is black and the start up menu icons are all over the black side,it is on the left side. The other side is the right color of my desk top. When I start my laptop (HP Windows Vista) it suddenly started up as if the whole screen has been magnified and the colour is distorted. This happened after installing a computer game and changing the settings (on the game) to a higher resolution. I uninstalled the computer and even restored it to an earlier point when it was working normally but the screen has stayed the same. It is not the same as safe mode, everything on the screen is much bigger but not in proportion - its as if my laptop thinks the screen is a lot bigger than it really is. I've saved some old photos on a CDRW using my DVD writer. No problems with some of the CDs. But one of the CD shows "no data" despite the CD being full, no empty space. Lately I am unable to watch video's being played by FOX news. Is this a left wing Obama consperacy to cut off the fair and balanced reporting of FOX? Or is this just a glitch in Vista. The site says that I must have the latest verision of Adobe flash player 10 and I do. When the screen loads it says that it is done but with errors on the page. Webpage error details says that Permission is denied, Object does not support this property or method. My wifes computer has Windows XP and we are able to view this site so we know that it is not this site and I am able to view other sites videos as well. I have looked to see if maybe I have some type of permissions somewhere blocked but I see nothing. Any ideas?

I need to be able to use Shift F1, F2, F3 ...etc.

When I try do an F13 command (Shift + F1) I get bounced out of my work program. This never happened before using Vista. I purhcased a compaq presario PC desktop a month ago and have been unable to use the uppercase command keys.

I never had this issue on my work/citrix desktop when using Windows XP. I can't find a way to remap these shift/command keys.

Laurie, previous versions of Windows would, at times expect a password, and if you've never set one, you should be able to just hit 'enter' without entering anything.(...called a 'null' password...) I don't know if this is the case, but, it would surely be something to try... -B

Laptop keeps freezing.  Takes 3 or 4 goes usually to get it started up, and then it's just a matter of time till it freezes again. Can't get task manager or any other response when it freezes - just have to switch it off. I have uninstalled all the programmes I can manage without - there actually isn't a lot left on it now! - but no improvement. I have tried disabling various of the programmes on start up - again no help.  I'm wondering if upgrading to windows 7 would help.  Any ideas?

I'm using vista home premium 32 bit. I like to play real time tactical games such as Warcraft 3 and Age of Empires. When I play these games how ever the window would minimize. I know something is working in the background, Because in trying to trouble shoot this problem I would run the task manger. Something is running while I play my game, but the process ends right after I exit. I don't know what this process may be, I only know that I usually run 78 processes at processes when idle, and each game as a launcher that ends when the game starts, and each game is only one process. Looking on online blogs I found a response that stated it was a process titled ccAPP, but I don't know if this is the case and I can't find that process on my task manager. I would appreciate any help and advice.

When I run a virus check using Microsoft Security Essentials Anti-Virus, it freezes when it's about 1/2 complete on a full virus check.

I have spent hours trying to save a video I made in Windows Moie Maker.  I have followed all the directions, went to all the help sites, and still only end up with a DVD or CD that I cannot play on a home DVD player connected with my TV -- The one DVD that sort of worked had the photos flying by 2 to 3 x faster than what I worked so hard to achieve in Movie Maker to fit with the music -- alas the music didn't come through at all so it was a failure all around anyway.

I have been using Windows Movie Maker for a couple of years, but now when I publish a movie and play it on Windows Media Player or GOM player I get a split screen with the movie on top and a blank screen on the bottom. Is there a setting to eliminate this split screen? Is the problem in Movie Maker or the movie players?
