did an update and it said restart the computer to complete, so I hit the restart, that installs and shuts down, turned computer on this morning, get to the point where it is nearly on the Windows screen, get a message "Configuring updates, stage 3 of 3 - 0% - Do not turn off computer" then is shuts down and reboots, right back to that screen, infinite loop! happened to my dads windows vista right down the street at the same time, please, any help! On startup I get a screen full of vertical blue lines. Reverting to a restore point will not resolve the problem. Occasionally after using startup repair the screen returns to normal briefly until I get a screen full of technical information and the screen reverts to the vertical blue lines again. |

I tried to do a Factory Restore and it wouldn't completely start up. I then bought the Recovery disc through Gateway and it almost worked but Windows Vista would not work. It would say Please insert Windows installation disc(do not have the disc) and then click repair computer. I've downloaded the Windows Vista Recovery Disc, and tried to use it, but for some reason it's not working. So i need to know what needs to be done. |

This usually happens over night. Most mornings my computer is in this state. A link in an email will not open IE. I also can't open mail attachments. When that is true I also can't openany other programs from the desk top or the start menu. I also can't open restart. It does not show up. If I close windows mail then I can open other programs and/or restart. All works well after restart....until next morning. |

Computer worked fine yesterday. Turned on this morning, and it won't load Windows. I can see the HP start up loading - then goes to a black screen. Restarted in Safe Mode - loads completely. I can see icons on desktop. Performed a repair computer - didn't find anything. Ran a virus check under Norton Antivirus - didn't detect anything. Ran a system check - everything passed. 1.I have a Windows Home Basic Computer 2.I have Windows Live Messenger (It doesn't open up The two little guys on the screen just keep spinning ECT ECT So I am not really worried about that AS I dont (CHAT) 3. I do a lot of writing and mostly on (WORD) but after the purchase of my Vista I have (WORKS)\My promlem is Even though I have Windows mail I can not attach anything to my Yahoo writings and send them as an attachments, ALSO I go into Windows Mail and try to send an Attachment to my contact list and I can't get the contact list to appear AND ALSO I will type in the address separate and then try to attach it ans it shows that it was sent. But in calling them they said they did not get the atachment. Then I discovered that I had to go into my Windows mail and click on my out going box that where it was sent and then it would me sent ??? However they see the attachment but can not open it. Now, Of the 31 people I have sent mail attachment to, (and please note they all have a varied types of Computer's from Windos ME to some of the more expensive one's and NO ONE CAN OPEN THEM UP all of my settings are correct. So If you can not determine the corrective action that I can make

When computer sets for awhile and goes into screen saver mode, active screen should reappear when mouse is moved or keyboard is struck but nothing happens and screen stays black. I must reboot computer to get active screen to return. How can this be stopped? This problem just started and I touched or changed nothing to cause this other than what I might have downloaded. Also since Vista was installed, an upgrade from Windows XP, I cannot get computer into safe mode. When I press F* it goes into starting page where I have different options such as sleepmode but that page is froze and nothing moves so I must reboot to return to normal operation... When I try to download my updates or any programs from the internet, I get a 8007005 error code. When I try to download the repair program it tells me "I may not have permission to add the add on." I am logged in as an administrator not able to download the information. Any suggestions? |

After installing the latest Vista updates (4/14) I can no longer reach my main User Profile. When I try to log in it says "User Profile Service failed. The User Profile cannot be loaded/" I still have my Admin account. How can I restore access to the at key account. All my Thunderbird saved mailed, bookmarks, etc etc etc is now inaccessible!!! |

I have Windows Vista on my desktop computer. Windows XP on my laptop. When I use Windows DVD Maker on the laptop, it is able to upload my avi files. When I try to upload same files on the Vista computer, I get the message that the file is not valid or corrupted. Is there a fix to the problem? |

I have Windows Vista Home Premium, and all my updates from Microsoft are up to date. We have 3 users defined on the system, myself, my wife and a 'guest' id(which is not used frequently). The problem relates to my and my wife's desktops, which after a year or so have all sorts of tailored items on them. If I reboot, and use my desktop, its OK. Ditto if my wife reboots also. However, if we try to switch from one user to another, the second user's desktop has disappeared. Don't know why. Reboot is fine, and the 'lost' user 'comes back', but the previously OK one does not. This problem used to occur intermittently, now it is all the time. We need 2 separate users, as my wife sometimes works from home, and she can retain any special settings she needs. Any help would be marvellous. |

Can you tell me if there is a way I can reset the "Type" of my user account back to "Administrator". While trying to creat a new general type user account for my kids, I changed the type of my user account. I now know that my account was "Administrator", and by changing it I do not have complete control of some actions. I contacted Windows Support, but they say that I will be billed $87.00 for their assistance. I can't affort that, so I'm hoping to find another way. Please help if you can. Updated Toshiba a205 (PSAF0U model running Vista Home Premium 32bit) with Vista SP2. Ever Since then I cannot boot up into normal mode, firstly with AC power plugged in, Now Not At ALL! I can only boot in safe mode but none of the available tools work. System restore crashes on loadup, as does the Recovery Disk. I have tried to update system BIOS but get BIOS part number error. I cannot uninstall Vista SP2 (All three stages complete but is says didnt install, reverting changes) All my restore points have been wiped out and I dont know what else I can do in safe mode. |

I have HP Officejet 4255 printer ( All-in-one). When I use two-sided printing option it prints second side in inverse order. For example 6 pages it prints as folows: 6,4,2 and then 5,3,1, i.e., final order is: 1,6,3,4,2,5. This problem is persent with Windows Vista, with Windows XP there is no problem. Experts fro HP cannot solve this problem. Problem is obviously in Windows Vista. Have you any solution for this problem? Thank you, Arnold |

Everything I try to open on my laptop gives me a window that asks "open file with". It happens with Internet Explorer, the control panel, quick books, everything. When you do go to open with and select something, it just continues to bring the window up again for what ever you try to open. I am not that computer smart but I usually fix these things on my own, this problem I have never seen before. |

I am using Vistas OS for the past 20 months. After upgrading IE-8, I facing the problem of windows explorer stopped working very frequently and unabale to open "D" Drive. Later I have uninstalled IE-8 also but of no use. Again in automatic updating IE-8 was installed and still the same problem is continuing. i am not able to open "D" Drive. once in a blue moon it opens and if you close and try again it does not. Also i have noticed that computer is 100% busy even without opening any folders or files at the starting of the system.Laptop has become very slow.Can any expert in computer suggest any solution. |
