Do you want to add printer in Vista ?

Add printer in Vista
If you want install a printer in Vista you have to attach it to your computer first, of course. Most printers use the USB port to connect to the computer.
We will not describe how to connect the printer to your computer. For this you have to follow the instruction guide or user manual which came with your printer.
Because almost every modern printer which are used in home situations are USB printers, we will only describe how to add such a printer in Windows Vista.
Steps to add a USB printer in Vista
- Close every opened program.
- Provide the printer with power using the the cable which came with your printer.
- Connect the printer to the USB port of your computer.
- Power on the printer and wait a few seconds
- Now there is a message in the taskbar which says that the device is connected and ready to use.
Install a network printer, a wireless printer or bluetooth printer
If your computer is part of a small network and you know that there is a shared printer in the network, you can install that printer on your computer as well. The same works for wireless printers and bluetooth printers.

|
Windows Vista often recognizes such shared printers and will automatically make them available on your computer. Don't forget to read the user manual of your printer before you are going to do what we will describe here below. Also be sure that the printer is powered on before you are trying to install it.
If you want to install a printer which is connected to another computer in the network, you have to be sure that AND the printer AND that computer is powered on.
Then go back to your computer (the computer where you want to install the printer on) and do the necessary steps. |
The installation of a network printer, a wireless printer or a bluetooth printer works quite the same as installing a local printer which is connected to your computer.
If you have problems installing a printer it could be possible that your drivers are outdated.

Now here we go........let's add printer in Vista....
Open the 'Printers' folder by clicking 'Start' -> 'Control Panel' -> 'Printers'.
If Vista already published that printer here then you don't need to install it. If you like to make this your default printer, then you right click on that printer and select 'Set as Default Printer'.
Now you can use that printer as your default printer.
If the printer is NOT in the 'Printers' folder, you do the following to install it.
- In the 'Printers' folder you click on the 'Add a Printer' button.
- Now there will start a wizard.
- In the first screen of the wizard you choose the second option 'Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth Printer'.
- Now Windows Vista will search the network for shared printers.
- If the printer you are looking for is found, you click on it and click 'Next'.
- In the next screen of the wizard you can choose to print a test page and to make that printer your default printer.
- Click 'Next' after you made your choice.
- Click 'Finish'.
- Now the printer is being displayed in the 'Printers' folder and it is ready to use.
If the printer is not found in step 5, you click on 'The printer that I want isn't listed'. Then you come in the following screen.

If you know the name or the ip address of the printer you want to install, you enter the address of that printer here by selecting the second option and to type it just like in the example given on this screen or you select the third option and click 'Next'.
After clicking next you can enter its ip address or hostname.
If the printer is found now, you click on the printer and click 'Ok'.
If the printer is installed properly you can use it.
In Windows Vista there are many printer drivers integrated, but it can be that there is none for your printer. If the printer doesn't work, you have to install the drivers manually. With almost every printer comes a CD or floppy with the printer driver on it.
Insert that CD or floppy and install the driver for your printer from that CD or floppy.
Now your printer MUST work, if not then the problem is something else and we advice you to go back to where you bought that printer.
